Terrestrial records of the early Albian Ocean Anoxic Event: Evidence from the Fuxin lacustrine basin, NE China

The early Albian Oceanic Anoxic Event 1b (OAE 1b) is well documented in the Tethys, Pacific and North Atlantic, but few studies have evaluated whether or not terrestrial records of OAE exist. In order to identify infer possible driving mechanisms, an integrated multi-proxy study from late Aptian Fuxin lacustrine basin was conducted, including thick, organic-rich black mudstones, total organic carbon (TOC), isotopes (?13Corg), mercury concentration (Hg) results pyrolysis analyses (S2, Tmax HI). Results show three distinct short-term negative ?13Corg excursions corresponding with relatively high TOC values, which could be counterparts Kilian, Paquier Leenhardt sub-events 1b. Atmospheric CO2 (pCO2) recovered C3 plant compositions indicates increasing trend Unit C during Albian, there are increases pCO2 at this time interval. We that a Kilian sub-event area closely related volcanism. Continental weathering calculated using chemical indices (CIA, WIP MIA(O)) interval, likely resulting warmer more humid conditions. Mixed sources plants plankton demonstrated by (HI vs. S2 TOC), indicate contribution sediments suggest CO2-forced greenhouse effect might triggered warm palaeoclimatic conditions, intensified combined create nutrient matter levels were flushed into lakes contributing eutrophication anoxia contemporaneous oceanic systems.
